Position Title  Animal Technician Posting Date  09-04-2009 Posting Number  20090664 Grade  42 Division  03 - OFFICE OF VETERINARY RESOURCES Category  Clerical/Technical Object Code  104 F/T or P/T:  FT Position Summary  Provide technical assistance for Lab Animal Services; implement animal care procedures following federal and state regulations, and University policy on animal welfare. Monitor environmental conditions including ventilation, temperature and lighting and report changes. Observe and detect changes in behavior, appetite, and signs of illness or pain. Alert supervisor and principal investigator of problems. Operate specialized equipment; perform routine maintenance and simple repair of equipment. Qualifications/Required Education  High School diploma. Preferred Education  Associates degree in Animal Science. Required Experience  1 year of animal care and maintenance experience. Preferred Experience  Experience in animal research laboratory. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  Knowledge of and ability to operate relevant lab equipment (e.g., cage washer, cage racks and animal racks). Ability to operate standard office equipment. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Certification.
