The Department of Health and Exercise Science is committed to providing exemplary education for Health and Physical Education teachers and professionals in Health and Exercise Sciences. Candidates are invited to apply for a tenure track assistant professor pedagogy position for preparing K-12 Health and Physical Education teachers beginning August, 2010.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research, service, and advising. Specific responsibilities will include teaching a variety of health and physical education content and pedagogical courses including elementary or secondary methods of HPE, comprehensive school health, adapted physical education, and supervision of student teachers. Additional assignments may include the supervision of field experiences, coordination of undergraduate HPE courses, and teaching graduate courses focusing on curriculum development, and current issues. The typical teaching load is three courses per semester, along with advising. Candidates must demonstrate a strong research agenda in K-12 HPE pedagogy, curriculum, or related topics.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in physical and health education or a closely related field. Strong candidates will also have experience in elementary and/or secondary education. ABD candidates will be considered if the candidate demonstrates evidence of advanced progress and a clear plan for timely completion of the dissertation before the beginning of the appointment.
