Provides assistance to outpatients in the Division of General Internal Medicine, including, but not limited to: greeting and registering patients, answering/routing telephones calls. Coordinates insurance verifications and pre-authorizations. Schedules patient appointments, and enters services/studies required into the computer. Ensures payment collection and appropriate billing documentation. Notifies clinical staff of issues and/or problems. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospitals philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. Required Education/Training:High School graduate or GED required. Associates Degree preferred. Required Experience: Three years of related office experience, preferably in outpatient registration and insurance verification. Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills, and good telephone etiquette. Needs basic computer skills and an ability to type 40 WPM. Knowledge of the IDX scheduling system and/or other automated scheduling/registration system preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to perform in a high pressure environment.
