*Preferred Skills: Flexibility to work in other locations from time to time. * Purpose of Job Performs initial work-up and specialized examinations of the eye as directed by ophthalmologist. Assists ophthalmologist with clinical examination and surgical procedures as directed. This position consistently supports compliance and Kaiser Permanentes Code of Conduct by adhering to federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements and Kaiser Permanentes policies and procedures. In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors." Duties and Responsibilities 1. Interviews each patient to obtain information about symptoms and documents information provided by patient in medical record. 2. Follows established protocol to determine the appropriate tests to perform based on patients description of symptoms and personal inspection of eye. 3. Uses specialized equipment to test patients vision and condition. 4. Provides test results to provider and brings attention to abnormal conditions. 5. Assists the ophthalmologist in the clinical examination of the eye and in surgical procedures as directed. 6. Applies eye dressings and protective shields as directed. 7. Documents examination results and treatments in patient file. 8. Cleans and maintains specialized equipment and work areas. 9. Attends patients requiring emergency care and alerts ophthalmologist to their condition. 10. Performs other related duties as requested. Minimum Qualifications Experience . Two years of experience as an Ophthalmology Assistant I required. . Successfully demonstrated proficiency on initial skills assessment during the interview process required. Education and Training . High school diploma or equivalent. . Formal course in ophthalmology or military training. License, Certifications, Other Credentials . Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology or obtained within 12 months of date of hire required . CPR certification required.
