: Through F5 Networks Professional Services, the F5 Consultant provides contracted engineering for which F5 bills at an hourly rate. Consulting engagements can be long-term events measured in months or short-term events measured in days. F5 Consultants are called upon to assist customers and partners in deploying/integrating customer solutions with F5 products. While this job may involve some project management and opportunity scoping, it requires customer expectation management and its technical fulfillment. Primary focus will be toward F5 Networks products and their integration with customer networks and other equipment. This position is not part of F5s technical support services and is not a corporate escalation point for customer issues. F5 Consultants often interface with F5 Sales Account Executives, but do not report to any given Account Executive. Incidental mentorship may result from working with other F5 employees, but it is not a performance metric. Responsibilities: * Performs consulting project activities, ranging from client identification to final invoicing to engagements requiring varied interpersonal and technical skills. * Assumes technical responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to, problem identification, systems architecture definition, hardware/software specification, design, implementation, testing, client training and solution deployment. * Performs project management activities that may include, but are not limited to, interaction with company and client managers, monitoring of cost/scheduling, project cost estimating, proposal generation and invoicing. * Identifies additional product/services opportunities in customer organization. * Manages customer interaction and engagement, including project scoping, Statement of Work development, deliverable documentation and follow-up. * Maintains working proficiency in F5 products and technologies through self-directed and formal training. Qualifications: * BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience. * Minimum of four years experience supporting technical environment. * Demonstrated strong interpersonal and presentation skills. * Ability to articulate and transfer complex ideas to a wide audience through both verbal and written communication. * Self-motivated and flexible. * Demonstrated strong written communication, presentation writing, project scoping and technical documentation skills. * Working knowledge of, and proficiency in, F5 ATM and security technologies. * Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking services such as DNS, UNIX, switches, routers and firewalls in Internet environments. * Security Clearance is a Plus. * Experience with application level switching and web technologies. * F5 ATM and Security certifications will be required within six months of hire. It is helpful for candidates to have experience with the following: * IPSec and/or SSL VPN technologies. * GateD, ZebOS, NameD, BIND, SSH daemons and clients, tcpdump, snoop, ethereal and other packet sniffing software or products. * IIS, Apache, WebSphere, WebLogic, Oracle or similar web and application platforms. * F5 iRule development. * Scripting and development in Unix shell, Perl, Java, C, .Net or similar environments.Demonstrated strong interpersonal and presentation skills. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Duties are performed in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table, and require the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.
