Engineering Support Mgr

Position Summary This position is responsible for managing the technical instrumentation & control group that designs and project manages capital upgrades and modifications at PPL Generation fossil and hydro plants, and manages the CEMS/RATA program. The position is responsible for directing the development and periodic updates of engineering and design standards for PPL Generation fossil and hydro plants, in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, and ensuring CEMS compliance. The position assures that the appropriate technical and project management resources are provided to meet PPL Generation business objectives. In situations, where in-house resources are insufficient, the position is responsible for arranging and directing external resources to meet objectives. The position supervises 10-20 senior engineers/engineers, drafters and assigned contract engineers. Primary Responsibilities 1. Manage, develop and provide technical guidance to engineering and drafting staff directly reporting to the position. Establish goals and objectives for direct reports and provide regular feedback on performance and development activities. Evaluate employee performance through the review of completed work assignments. 2. Organize and prioritize work group activities and assign/schedule work duties to meet completion dates and plant expectations. Arrange for external support as needed to meet business objectives. 3. Provide technical and project management support to ensure fossil plants operate safely, reliably and efficiently. Is also responsible for providing subject matter expertise across fossil & hydro fleet in technical area of responsibility. 4. Prepare or direct the preparation of labor, material and equipment specifications and contracts for capital projects. Approve technical specifications and financial documents (per DOA) in support of capital projects. 5. In conjunction with the Plants, Business Services and other GTS groups, develop and manage station business plans across the fossil and hydro fleet that meet financial and operational performance targets. 6. Represent GTS on internal and external technical committees, working groups and task forces. 7. Direct and participate in studies of specialized engineering problems, or other special projects. 8. In conjunction with other GTS groups, manage the coordination between plant and support organizations for capital projects; monitoring the status of plans and schedules and proactively proposing actions to address schedule, cost or design intent deviations. Candidate Qualifications Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration. Basic Qualifications Thorough understanding of fossil and hydro power plant operations, equipment and systems, and extensive technical knowledge and experience (10+ years) in related areas of technical support and engineering design. BS in Engineering Professional Engineer, registered in PA Preferred Qualifications Previous experience leading a group of engineers and/or project managers. ? Strong customer focus and ability to manage client expectations. ? Demonstrated ability to effectively manage people and projects. ? Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present and discuss technical information in a way that persuades others and gains understanding.
