Outcomes: The successful candidate will: Lead and assist in the development and implementation of commodity strategies within the Thermoplastic and Silicone commodity grouping; Establish, develop and maintain relationships with prototype and/or production suppliers; Be required to lead project activity related to product launches or purchasing processes; Be responsible for supporting new product designs and changes to existing products by providing technical input to both engineers and suppliers relative to component design, material selection, and cost improvement requirements; Support new product launches, which includes developing alternative sources, quoting of components, and procuring of parts for prototype, pre-pilot run and pilot run activities. Behaviors: The successful candidate will demonstrate: A working knowledge in the processes of injection molding, liquid injection molding(silicones), compression molding and, extruded products; A high degree of internal interface with the new product development engineering community and the self managed work teams to transition new products into production; Effective written and oral communication skills to ensure that organizational outcomes are realized; High performance, planning and organizing in a dynamic business environment to ensure achievement of organizational objectives. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: The position requires a BS in Engineering or a BS in a related field, plus 3 to 5 years in direct engineering or purchasing experience in new product development. MS degree in engineering or business preferred. EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience (or purchasing experience in direct support of new product development engineering)in the designated commodity field as related to manufacturing, continuous production support, new product release, and former product phase out is required. Understanding of the manufacturing processes and dynamics of the market for parts in the designated commodity is required. Ability to communicate technical requirements to a supplier required. Ability to evaluate engineering designs and design changes for cost and manufacturability required. Experience with qualifying components and raw materials in new and existing designs as related to parts in the designated commodity is preferred. The candidate must have a good working knowledge or experience in the purchasing of components and subsystems within a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of procurement and materials management principles and practices required. Knowledge of operations techniques including statistical process control (SPC), just-in-time(JIT) manufacturing, benchmarking, and other quality and continuous improvement tool desired. Background in Purchasing Law, and SAP desired. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Travel of 20-25% with the potential for international travel can be expected. This position is primarily a sedentary, but does require occasional standing and walking in order to perform the essential functions of the job. Must frequently lift & carry up to 10 lb., and occasionally lift & carry up to 50 lb. Requires occasional use of fine manipulation, grasping, and pushing & pulling ability.
