Winter/Spring 2010 Intern -White House Unit

Please Note: Internships are UNPAID and structured to last approximately 12 weeks. Resume and cover letter are required for application. Please include days/hours of availability in your cover letter and a college reference contact at the end of your resume. Students should have a strong academic record and good character. Students must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship. In addition, students may not have graduated college or graduate school prior to the start of the internship (i.e. students must still be enrolled in school during the time of the internship). Students must be receiving course credit for DC internships. Note to International Students: All international students will be required to provide documentation of proper visa paperwork prior to arrival if accepted to the program. Only student visas J1 or F1 visas will be accepted. The deadline to apply for winter/spring internship is November, 18th 2009 and the internship program is slated to begin on January 13th, 2010.

Internship Description: As a White House unit intern, students will have the opportunity to gain insight into White House operations, the U.S. political system and CNNs editorial process. They will learn how to compile research, process videotape, conduct interviews, plan logistics and develop sources of information for CNNs White House correspondents as they prepare their daily TV, radio and internet reports. They will be able to strengthen their research skills and contribute and listen to our editorial and production calls. In the field, interns have the opportunity to accompany producers to White House events. In production, interns learn how to set up a script with tape and write using CNNs database. Interns will also learn how to use CNNs tape database to locate tapes for packages and sound bites for air. Interns would need to be available during the week for this internship.

Qualifications: In order to facilitate the learning experience, the following qualifications are preferred. Candidate should be seeking a career in politics and/or journalism. Should be self-motivated, able to multi-task, have a good attitude, and be able to function well in an environment with short deadlines and quick turnaround projects.
