Winter/Spring 2010 Intern -Medical Unit

Please Note: Internships are UNPAID and structured to last approximately 12 weeks. Resume and cover letter are required for application. Please include days/hours of availability in your cover letter and a college reference contact at the end of your resume. Students should have a strong academic record and good character. Students must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship. In addition, students may not have graduated college or graduate school prior to the start of the internship (i.e. students must still be enrolled in school during the time of the internship). Students must be receiving course credit for DC internships. Note to International Students: All international students will be required to provide documentation of proper visa paperwork prior to arrival if accepted to the program. Only student visas J1 or F1 visas will be accepted. The deadline to apply for winter/spring internship is November, 18th 2009 and the internship program is slated to begin on January 13th, 2010.

The CNN Medical unit in DC works with the main medical unit located at the CNN Center in Atlanta. Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Elizabeth Cohen are our correspondents. The bureau consists of two producers. We are looking for an intern to help with day to day operations.

Internship Description: Interns would have a multitude of duties, including research, filing, phone work and tape logging. Interns will also have the opportunity to go out with crews to learn how stories are gathered and will also have an opportunity to work with crews on developing a resume reel.

Qualifications: Must have an interest in medical issues and a desire to work on complex stories. A medical or journalism degree is not required. Good writing is a must.
