Responsibilities: Reporting to the Manager, Industrial Hygiene, the incumbent will be responsible for NYC Transit-wide industrial hygiene programs including but not limited to: evaluation and monitoring of field operations to detect chemical, biological, and physical hazards; performance of field surveys to determine compliance with federal/state safety & health regulations and NYC Transit policies; recommending task-specific engineering controls and personal protective equipment; toxicological reviews of chemical products; indoor air quality investigations; preparation of comprehensive reports on job task and exposure assessments and development of appropriate recommendations. This job requires excellent verbal, writing, and organizational skills. Must be available to work a flexible shift as needed, respond to on-call emergencies (in company vehicle), and possess a valid Drivers license. Exper. & Educ.: For Appointment to Salary Step 1: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, fire safety, environmental or occupational safety, ergonomics, statistics, mathematics, chemical, physical or biological sciences, industrial hygiene, safety management or a related field. For Appointment to Salary Step 2: Completion of 1 year of satisfactory service at Step 1 or a Masters degree in one of the fields of study mentioned in "1" above. Desired Skills: The successful candidate will have knowledge of federal and state health & safety regulations, OSHA and NIOSH sampling methodologies, and other industrial hygiene practices and principles including ventilation. Must have familiarity with Windows, MS Excel, and Access. Candidates with ABIH certification will be given preference.
