Autopsy Assistant I

The incumbent in this position performs a variety of functions as pertains to the performance of autopsies and the autopsy suite. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospitals philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Required Education/Training:High School Graduate or equivalent (GED).  AA degree in histology, cytology, gross anatomy and physiology or related science preferred.

Required Experience: Incumbent can be trained on the job.  Previous experience as an autopsy assistant or histotechnologist desirable. Must be able to learn or have basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, instrumentation and legal aspect of consent for performing autopsies. Good interpersonal skills. Mature individual able to be empathetic to the needs of bereaved families/significant others.
