Schedule: Rotating schedule to include holidays, weekends, and nights. Purpose of Job Provides administrative assistance and logistical support to Histology Laboratory through a general understanding of Surgical Pathology Laboratory Operations and regulatory requirements. This position consistently supports compliance and Kaiser Permanentes Code of Conduct by adhering to federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements and Kaiser Permanentes policies and procedures. In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors. Accountabilities: . Prepares cases to be grossed-in in the Histology laboratory, accessions cases, checks tissue-examination forms and specimens for completeness and accuracy, and labels specimen cassettes and slides with accession numbers according to varied specimen requirements. . Assists processing of specimens for testing at the Regional Laboratory. . Assists Histology in the assurance that all departmental copies of reports and necessary tissue blocks are maintained in chronological/numerical order and according to appropriate storage requirements. . Files and maintains microscope slides and paraffin blocks of surgical pathology cases. . Performs preventive maintenance on instrumentation. . Performs formalin monitor and maintains pertinent documentation. . Prepares stains, performs and documents all QC on stains and reagents in accordance to regulatory requirements. . Assists the pathologists in fine needle aspiration procedures. Prepares and maintains related reagents and stains. . Shuttles mail, specimens, and papers between the laboratory tissue lab, and pathology offices. . Performs other related duties as directed. Minimum Qualifications Experience . One year of previous work experience in a Laboratory capacity required. . One year of experience as a pathology assistant preferred. Education and Training .
