Research Training Coordinator (Level 13

DEADLINE: November 16, 2009 QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree, Masters preferred, and three years of progressively responsible experience. Experience in higher education preferred. Familiarity of OMB Circulars A-21, A-110, A-133 and other pertinent external regulations required and demonstrated experience with effort certification in a federally funded environment preferred. Knowledge of web-based training programs and familiarity with web tools. Ability to determine training objectives; to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments; to provide technical leadership to external and internal constituencies. Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. Knowledge of university accounting system with experience in research administration is preferred. Demonstrated experience in developing training required; success in training a broad audience on complex information preferred. Ability to understand and interpret educational needs and to develop effective instructional media solutions. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures; and advanced analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodology. Ability to provide technical leadership to professional staff and/or students in area of expertise. Working knowledge of MS Office suite. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops and maintains active training curricula for all areas of research administration and oversight. Strategizes with other research office leaders, to create and maintain a culture of responsible conduct through education and communication. Evaluates the needs of the campus users and forecasts new issues as they require education. This includes understanding new issues/trends as well as surveying campus for issues which may need additional education. Designs and develops effective training solutions to meet these identified needs, taking into consideration factors such as the audience, effectiveness of training methods, timeframe and costs. Design and deliver individual and/or group training and instructional programs personally, collaboratively or arrange for other trainers; the instructional methodologies include instructor-led, electronic, web-based, and multimedia training methods and formats. Create all types of effective training materials necessary to enhance the educational experience for the learners such as training manuals, job aids, web-based tutorials and podcasts, and instructional guides. Ensure training materials are consistent in design and quality and updated on a regular basis. Consider the greatest impact and least risk to the University community when prioritizing training needs among many possible projects. Researches, plans, organizes, designs, develops, and delivers individual and/or group training and instructional programs, using instructor-led, electronic/web-based, and/or multimedia training methods and formats. Deliver this content to varied audiences including faculty, staff, executive administrators, graduate students, post docs. Create curricula for certificate programs in Effort, Pre Award Administration, and Post Award Research Administration, and other areas as necessary including Regulatory Affairs and proposal development. Curricula development includes development of appropriate content, structuring the program to appropriate levels/styles of learning. Collaborate with other related divisions/departments to synchronize relevant and related offerings. Finance, HR and others will be collaborative. Determine and recommend mandatory or elective training status for modules or full curricula. Implement mandatory training for selected audience; track expected attendees against those that participated and address the missing participants. Recommend appropriate leverage or action to be taken for missing mandatory trainings. Review peer and aspiring institutions plans to seek guidance in this measure. Identify optimal electronic tools for content delivery where appropriate. Design, develop and deliver trainings in multiple formats to ensure accessibility by all participants. Constantly monitor new tools for integrated content delivery and assessment. Develop assessment tools which will (1) validate end user knowledge and in some cases (2) lead to the granting of a certificate. Collaborate with UD HR to ensure that assessment tools used are appropriate to UD environment ensuring HR compliance. Coordinate schedule of offerings in collaboration with UD HR or UD IT to ensure year round opportunities for instructor-led training; construct schedule in conjunction with other complementary offerings from IT or Finance. Stay abreast of new or changing regulations which require mass communication and training. Work closely with the Assistant Provost, Associate Provosts, Effort Manager, Manager of Sponsored Programs Administration and Manager of Sponsored Research Accounting as new content is needed or new delivery methods are employed. Design, develop and prepare a monthly newsletter from the RO division which is delivered monthly. Ensure existence of new or revised policies and procedures are communicated to the necessary audiences. Create and maintain the research division training website to support the training functions and programs. Manage training budget. Conduct follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results; modify programs as needed. Conducts needs assessments to identify and evaluate individual and/or group training requirements for employees University-wide. Identify and recommend new programs that will enhance the skills of employees based on need and select appropriate training vendors and venues that provide services that are consistent with UDs mission and culture. Perform other related duties as assigned.
