Strongly prefer a current or recently lapsed TS Clearance** **Candidates who are NOT a U.S. CITIZEN or not eligible to HOLD a TS Clearance WILL NOT be considered for this position.** **Must be located in the METRO D.C. area or willing to relocate to that area** This Network Consulting Engineer (NCE) will be a member of Cisco Government Services and Support Program (GGSG AS) Team supporting U.S. Federal Government Agencies. This NCE maintains oversight responsibility for post sales Advanced Engineering Services support to Government Agencies customers and as such, works closely with customer engineering, other Cisco Systems, Inc. and GGSG AS Engineers, GGSG AS ORMs/High Touch Operations Managers, DoD Systems Engineers and the Cisco TAC. This NCE will report to the respective assigned GGSG AS Services Delivery Manager. Primary responsibilities include providing Routing and Switching and Security Solutions support inside a government network. Provide network design and architecture assistance to these customers with respect to Routing and Switching/Security Implementation, educating customers on new technologies & Cisco best practice processes, reviewing current operational processes for optimization, and developing a trusted, advisory type relationship. Also assists customer with technical network direction, design and deployment of new future architectures, as well as program management of emerging new technological programs and associated network infrastructures. This Network Consulting Engineer (NCE) will work onsite or remotely with the customer in support of the customers Cisco related network solutions and providing network design and architecture development, as well as troubleshooting assistance. Some travel will be required, approximately 40%. Primary duties will include helping customer with their Plan, Prepare, Design, Implement, Operate and Optimize network lifecycle of the existing network infrastructure. Common Responsibilities: Provide Network Design and Architecture assistance to customer with respect to layer 2 and 3 design and deployment strategies, including development of a long range next generation network upgrade program plan. Attend all customer technical exchange meetings to discuss transition and deployments of new routing and switching or security solutions implementations. Identify potential risks to legacy systems, outages, incompatibilities and technical limitations associated with deployment of new systems or changes to existing communication networks. Develop fall back plans in case changes in network baselines are unsuccessful during upgrades or installs. With assistance from remote Cisco AS support team, perform site surveys; coordinate installs/upgrades/maintenance with all POCs affected by new installs or legacy systems integration issues Assist customer in the procurement of new equipment, hardware configurations, equipment testing, and installation assistance. Provide guidance and technical support to peers and customers for current and new technologies, network changes, IOS/CTC upgrades and hardware changes/upgrades Performs analysis and diagnosis of highly complex network problems related to the technology or the network. Builds simulated network solutions implementations in test labs to resolve highly complex problems and compatibility issues. The NCE may perform any of the following components of the role breakdown depending on specific engagements: Project Engineering role: Generates standard project documentation including detailed design and test plans. Generates unified network related configurations from Low Level Design for highly complex networks. Plans and executes highly complex network solution upgrade and migration activity. Proactive Service & Support: Leads future network design workshops and information update briefings to peers and customers Reactive Service & Support: Troubleshoots and resolves highly complex customer network problems across a broad range of technologies. Acts as a focal point for highly complex network design and problem resolution. Advanced Services Technology Specialization Teams: Provides training to other NCEs as well as real-time escalation response for support issues. Owns responsibility for driving planning and design for customers next generation network architectures. Typically requires BS, CS, or University degree equivalent plus 6-8 years experience in network engineering or telecommunications support environment. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
