Description Title: Associate Scientist I Location: MD, Gaithersburg - Corporate Headquarters Req: 02052 Position Summary: Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others): The candidate should have a thorough understanding of protein purification techniques and principles including liquid chromatography, normal and cross flow filtration. The candidate is expected to design, develop and execute protein purification processes to meet early stage process development objectives and timelines. Responsibilities include development and troubleshooting of purification protocols for novel molecules such as protein-drug conjugates, bi-specifics and proteins expressed in bacterial expression system that require refolding. Experience with standard protein purification instrumentation and analytical laboratory techniques are essential. The candidate is expected to prepare technical reports, to maintain accurate records of experiments, and to analyze and present data at group and team meetings. The candidate is expected to assist in the preparation of regulatory documents (INDs, CTAs and IMPDs). Position Requirements Special Skills/Abilities: ? Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in protein purification development and scale up. ? Knowledge and hands on experience with chromatography equipment at lab scale and large scale. ? Knowledge and hands on experience with normal flow and cross flow diafiltration at lab and large scale. ? Knowledge and hands on experience with protein assays, SDS-PAGE and HPLC. ? Familiarity with Design of Experiments and statistical analysis. ? GMP experience. Familiarity with tech transfer to pilot and commercial manufacturing desired. ? Experience writing regulatory documents. ? Good oral and written communication skills. ? Functions effectively as member of one or more project teams Job Complexity: Job is complex, requiring a thorough understanding of biochemical properties of biopharmaceuticals, process development and scale up in support of product commercialization. Scientific and technical expertise in protein purification is essential. Knowledge and experience in chromatography and filtration development is required. Supervision: Reports directly to Scientist II but is expected to work under general supervision on a day-to-day basis. Educational Requirements Requirements/Qualifications: Education: B.S., M.S., or equivalent in chemical engineering Experience: M.S. with 2+ years of experience or B.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience in biotechnology and development of biopharmaceutical products.
