Description Title: Scientist II Location: MD, Gaithersburg - Corporate Headquarters Req: 02061 Position Summary: Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others): The incumbent in this position will develop stable production cell lines for therapeutic antibodies or other protein pharmaceuticals using mammalian cell lines (CHO and NS0). Twenty to thirty percent of the incumbents effort will be to lead and influence integration of technology development projects, including developing microarray or protein array profiling of cell lines to diagnose expression bottlenecks, high-throughput robotic procedures for clonal cell line isolation, expansion and evaluation, and using automated data management systems. The incumbent will also represent the PCC&F department on CMC Teams during early clinical development and contribute to regulatory documents. The incumbent will maintain knowledge of current cell culture literature and present and publish results inside and outside MedImmune. As a team player in our department, the incumbent will maintain the laboratory and its equipment, provide technical support for upstream processes in therapeutic protein manufacturing and collaborate with colleagues in Research. The incumbent will keep detailed and accurate records of work and will generate and review SOPs and batch records and assist in other areas as needed, including operating bioreactors. Position Requirements Special Skills/Abilities: Extensive experience in cell and molecular biology, including mammalian cell culture and stable cell line generation. Experience with microscopy, ELISA, and flow cytometry. Experience with robotics, high-throughput processes and automated data management a plus. High level of scientific curiosity and excellent problem-solving, organizational and documentation skills with a strong focus on details and results. Quantitative, technical writing and oral presentations skills are essential. Proficiency in MS Office computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets and required. Must be able to work for multiple hours in the lab and perform pipetting and other repetitious operations. Periodic weekend work is required. Job Complexity: Must have the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment, as well as the ability to work with individuals from multiple technical areas and with varying levels of scientific and technical expertise. Supervision: Must be able to supervise associates and scientists with engineering or biological sciences background Educational Requirements Education: Ph.D or M.S. in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular or Cell biology or Biochemical Engineering or other related fields Experience: Scientist II requires 3-7 years industry experience in addition to a Ph.D or 10-13 years industry experience in addition to an M.S.
