U.S. global leadership is intended to help foster coalitions and public understanding that will support efforts of the United States government to work in a cooperative fashion with the international community. OSI works to unite advocates who work on different issues, including support for the United Nations, improving public health and advancing initiatives on arms control, human rights and the environment. OSI works to create a climate of opinion that supports cooperative approaches to the worlds problems. OSI also works on a wide range of regional and programmatic issues and the OSI Washington, D.C., office works to support these efforts when possible with effective advocacy on U.S. policy. The senior policy analyst for multilateral affairs will also assist with these efforts as needed, including taking on some policy portfolios on an ongoing basis (e.g. U.S. policy towards Burma) and specific assignments outside the arena of multilateral policy on an as "as needed" basis. Responsibilities The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas: * Analyze U.S. Government policy toward cooperation on a broad range of multilateral issues; * Develop strategies and materials to move U.S. Government policy on multilateral issues through effective public advocacy and one-on-one discussions with key decision-makers; * Work closely with representatives of other organizations to help built effective coalitions on multilateral issues; * Meet with high-level government and multilateral representatives; * Assist in developing and implementing all aspects of OSIs work on multilateral issues; * Create a range of documents, including articles, issue briefs, reports and memoranda on issues and/or legislation related to OSIs work on multilateral issues; and * Travel as needed to represent OSI at various OSI-sponsored meetings and community gatherings, both in Washington and around the country. Qualifications * Degree in relevant field plus at least seven years of related work experience; * Excellent knowledge of U.S. political process, and experience working with Congress on issues involving multilateral engagement; * Excellent communication skills, i.e., familiarity with and demonstrated ability to communicate findings, positions, fact sheets, policy briefings, orally and in writing; * Strong substantive knowledge of international and multilateral engagement issues and US Government policy on those issues; * Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines; * Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Internet; and * Excellent research skills, i.e., ability to analyze, synthesize and report information.
