Description Title: Principal Scientist/Fellow Location: CA, Santa Clara - NON SALES Req: 02077 Reporting to the associated director of the Cell Culture Development the successful candidate will work in the development of cell culture processes for the production of human vaccine products. The main responsibilities include Design, perform and analyze cell culture experiments to improve product quality and yields at various scales in bioreactors Transfer cell culture-based manufacture process to cGMP production facility up to 2500L including creating process description, developing processes accommodating facility requirements at the receiving site and supporting engineering and CTM runs. Lead upstream process development for new vaccine candidate development Serve as the residence expert for late stage process development and tech transfer Write technical reports, publications, regulatory files and present experiment data internally and externally Identify and implement new technologies to improve vaccine production. Mentor senior engineers and scientists Position Requirements Demonstrated ability to perform and deliver cGMP production processes. Hands on experience with mammalian cell culture in small scale bioreactors and working experience with process scale up and process transfer are required. Highly motivated with excellent oral and written communication skills. Detail oriented and excellent record keeping ability. Ability to multitasking and working in a team environment. Experience with DOE and JMP software is desirable. Knowledge in serum free media development is also a plus. Job Complexity: Very High Supervision: Ability to independently lead complex projects and supervise senior engineers and scientists Educational Requirements Requirements/Qualifications: Education: Graduate Degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or life sciences related field required Experience: at least 20 years experience in mammalian and/or prokaryotic culture bioreactor process Working experiences in cell culture media and feed, microcarrier and suspension culture process development, process range finding, unit design and late stage large scale process tech transfer and cGMP manufacture support.
